Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), one of only 8 in the
state of California, and one of only 251 in the entire U.S.
In 2011, HOI became the highest volume provider of joint replacements in
California according to data from the Office of Statewide Health Planning
and Development (OSHPD)
HOI was named one of the top orthopedic hospitals in the nation by
U.S. News & World Report for two consecutive years (2012-2013).
HOI was named as one of the top 101 orthopedic programs in the nation by
Becker’s Orthopedic, Spine & Pain Management Review in 2012.
HOI was ranked in the nation’s top 2% in patients’ willingness
to recommend the hospital, based on Press Ganey data.
HOI was designated as a Blue Distinction Center for high-quality Knee and
Hip Replacement by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California.
HOI was one of three hospitals selected by the California Joint Replacement
Registry to pilot a statewide registry database for patients undergoing
joint replacement surgery tracking long-term patient outcomes.
HOI collaborated with McKesson and Aetna to create the first automated
implementation of Integrated Healthcare Associations (IHA’s) bundled
payment model, designed to decrease healthcare costs by improving practices
and standardizing care. This model is the first of its kind in California
and one of the first in the nation. The bundling system, which began in
2012 with knee replacements and now includes hip replacement surgeries,
has created a new level of accountability and transparency in medical care
HOI was designated as an Aetna Institute of Quality® Orthopedic Care
Facility for total joint replacement and spine surgery for 2011-2012.
HOI achieved Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Silver
Certification from by the United States Green Building Council for its
environmentally friendly design.
