2016 Toshiba Classic Wrap-Up

10-11-2016

Hoag Orthopedic Institute was proud to be a contributing sponsor of the 2016 Toshiba Classic. Several HOI physicians on medical staff were at the Hoag Health Village meeting golf fans and answering their orthopedic questions.

Some highlights from the week-long festivities included Friday’s opening round of professional competition, PGA Tour Champions paid a touching tribute to Arnold Palmer by raising his signature four-colored umbrella during a course-wide moment of silence. Fans also had the opportunity to salute Arnie and take home one of the umbrellas with proceeds going to Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation.

Saturday marked the 2nd Annual Military Appreciation Day to honor former, active and reserve service men and women with free admission and food and beverages for them and their guests. And, helping to bring the sport of golf to a younger generation of fans, was the Inaugural Toshiba Classic Student Day where fans 18 and under got in free. On Sunday, for the final day of play – Jay Haas was crowned the champion of the tournament, making him the second-oldest winner in PGA Tour Champions history.

The Toshiba Classic continues to be a staple of Orange County sports events and we are happy to report that Mr. Fumio Otani, Chairman and CEO of Toshiba America, Inc. announced a three-year extension as title sponsor of the PGA Champions Tour event. This tournament brings more than $1 million annually to local charities, such as the Mary & Dick Allen Diabetes Center at Hoag and other worthy causes.
