For the eighth consecutive year, HOI performed the highest volume of joint replacement procedures in the State of California, based on data from the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD).


Press Ganey Guardian has recognized Hoag Orthopedic Institute with 3 awards in 2022, including the Guardian of Excellence® for Patient Experience for the ninth consecutive year, the Pinnacle of Excellence® for Patient Experience in HCAHPS for maintaining consistently high levels of excellence over multiple years, and the Pinnacle of Excellence® for maintaining consistently high levels of excellence over multiple years on the Press Ganey survey questions included on our HCAHPS survey.

HOI was one of three hospitals selected by the California Joint Replacement Registry to pilot a statewide registry database for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery tracking long-term patient outcomes.


HOI collaborated with McKesson and Aetna to create the first automated implementation of Integrated Healthcare Associations (IHA’s) bundled payment model, designed to decrease healthcare costs by improving practices and standardizing care. This model is the first of its kind in California and one of the first in the nation. The bundling system, which began in 2012 with knee replacements and now includes hip replacement surgeries, has created a new level of accountability and transparency in medical care
